Old Printed Books

The museum collection Old Printed Books began form in 1975 (Book. Missal. 2nd half of the 18th century). The structure of the museum’s collection includes prints of different confessions till 1830. A part of books comes from the book collections of monasteries: Grodno Franciscan, Grodno St. Bridget, Budslav Bernardine and others. Liturgical and religious publications disclose the meaning of the liturgical worship sevices, reflect the worldview, philosophical, social and theological opinion, and are remarkable monuments of the world’s printing. The most valuable museum objects in the museum’s collection are:

  • The book. Missale Romanum. Venice, 1585;
  • The book. Gospel. Vilnius, or Eue, 1644;
  • The book. Breviarium Monialium (for the Grodno monastery of St. Bridget). Vilnius, 1684;
  • Books from the library of the Grodno Franciscan monastery. 1561-183 etc.

As of 01.01.2022, the museum collection Old Printed Books consists of 1295 museum objects of main fund and 219 objects of scientific and auxiliary materials’ fund.
